Before well tell you our ideas, we want to make it clear that we are students first. We are here to serve each and every one of you and not for our own personal gain.
We truly love Miami University and the experiences each of us has had, but we see improvement that can be had. This student body needs strong and reliable leadership and we know we can provide the leadership that this campus needs.
Throughout this campaign, we will stand by our motto; Students first, Miami forever. We can support this motto through Communicating, Collaborating, and Creating. Communication is key to any successful and effective organization and community. We want to ensure students know and understand the specifics for Medical Amnesty and how it exists for your benefit. We want transparency from the Armstrong Student Center Board so that organizations know how to effectively use the building. We also want transparency with Associated Student Government. An everyday student should be able to voice their opinion just as much as an elected senator. We are a powerful student organization, but we exist for you. We need to ensure every student understands what happens on Miami’s campus and how they can participate.
This brings us to our second point. Collaboration happens when there’s a symbiotic relationship between organizations and when more experiences are available to each student. This campus has the tendency to silo and forget the fact that we are all Miamians, reaching towards the same goal. We all want a job after graduation and the most marketable applicant will be the one with the most diverse experiences to share. For example, Miami tends to be apathetic in support for athletics. We want to see students more excited for all games (football, hockey, basketball, baseball) especially with Miami’s new tailgating policy. We plan to make sure we are working with the social organizations like Greek Life, MAP, or even you to encourage all students to want to be showing their organizations off at these events. It can even be used as a recruiting method to show everyone how proud you are to be wearing your letters/ organizations t-shirt. If you help athletics, athletics will help you and thus will lead to a greater, stronger Miami community.
And finally we want to Create. We want to build a stronger Miami for future generations. We want future students to have the same love and honor that we have for this university. We can do this through advocating for a tuition freeze, so that when you enter this university you will know how much you are going to pay for four years. We also want to see diversity within the food offered on campus. Why can’t we have a popular chain like Chick-fil-a or Noodles and Company? We want to answer these questions and see if these kinds of requests are possible. Our job is to advocate for the student body to make this campus better. We want to leave Miami better than how we found it.
